Night Stands - are so my thing !

There are a lot of mixed feelings towards "One Night Stands" Some people have a strong aversion towards it and other swear by them. I am neutral towards them, if it makes you happy go ahead ' to each their own'!
What i have is a strong aversion to is BAD or NON FUNCTIONAL night stand or NO night stand. Well yes i do mean the night stand by the beds or the tables which we call 'side tables' in our country.
Along with emotional i need my physical space demarcated very clearly and my night stand is my space in the room. I need to keep a few things handy all the time. My bottle of water, my medicines, my lip balm and a medicated moisturizer. This doesnt sound like too many things but you know there are other things which you are too lazy to give a space to like some bills( which i will never see), some papers, some bank statements( even though i have gone paperless) and lots more stuff.  So yes a night stand is a must for me.
Since i am sharing my husband's room now there are some changes the room needs( its not used to a lady you see) One main thing that the bed needs is night stands. As a bachelor my husband used the floor and the bed to keep his things but now things are a bit different ;)
So i wanted some fun night stands for the room and while researching for them i found some great ideas which i wanted to share with you!
Let me know if any of these inspire you to change or add night stands to your bedsides.

I found this really cool and rustic idea for a night stand. This is the best solution for spaces where you do not want the night stand to touch the floor and also the space on the side of the bed is limited. The plank of wood can also be used to mount a lamp.
Another very quirky idea, if you do not like to block the floor space  have a hanging side table. You can use any plank of wood remaining from previous woodwork and some rope, very cost effective and convenient.
Do you have small ladders that you are thinking of discarding because they are old or not tall enough to reach the top cabinets? Voila! here is a perfect way to use them. These will give a vintage look to your rooms and will be really friendly to your pocket.
If you are really into recycled furniture, these are really cool ways to use wooden/ metal crates, just add legs to a wooden one  or a plank of wood to the metal one and you have a side table/ night stand ready .
Oh i LOVE LOVE LOVE the use of vintage travel cases and the mirror on top. This is lovely for homes which love to flaunt vintage and do not shy away from creative display.
While we are on the subject of being creative,  do you have an old drawer from your woodwork and a metal stool that you used to use to reach out to the ceiling touching cabinets? combine them and get a brand new side table which is fun and functional.
Did you posses a fish tank sometime but now do not use it as one. Plant a terrarium garden, they require barely any maintenance and guess what they can serve a table too.

If you a lover of books and dislike the concept of drawers this is the one for you, keep your books handy and use the top as a side table.

These are some ways in which we can make quirky, fun, personalized and DIY cost effective night stand !Now i am wondering which one to choose for my room ! any ideas? tell me which one do you recommend !

My new workplace !

Change is inevitable and I am not good with it !
Over the years I have seen myself struggling with any kind of change. Even the smallest thing like the change in weather throws my body off guard and not until recently I began to accept that the problem is not my immune system it is my resistance to change. Being a strong headed ram it is difficult to accept things but that's the biggest change I have brought to my life.
Not keeping too well I decided to close down my 8 year old venture - FULCRUM, a lovely home and lifestyle store. I also relocated from Pune to Kolkata to be with family and take care of my health.
Now I am travelling between Pune and Kolkata. Pune because I tied the knot and my husband lives here and Kolkata because I still do a bit of designing and my workshop is there.
During my time here I like to spend as much time as I can with my husband and since he is a dentist I end us spending a lot of time at his clinic. It does sound boring from a creative persons perspective doesn't it. BTW I designed the place for him !
Well at times i do feel out of place but then its a place that I have put my heart into setting up since I was dating him when his clinic was being made. It is also a place which was difficult for me put together as I went way out of my comfort zone to design it.
Without further adieu let me share with you pictures of the space I now spend a lot of time in.
This is the reception and yes there is a lot of colour. My husband had a very specific requirement and that is " the clinic should feel and look pleasing and not like an intimidating space".

This is the passage to the waiting area. Welcoming and colourful.

This is where you relax and calm your nerves before the surgery.

These are the surgical rooms. Have tried to keep them minimalist and classic.

This is where i spend most of my days now. I help him manage the clinic and also get the time to design and spend time on the internet learning new things.
This year is going to be a year of reflection and contemplation of the direction to take in life and i will be spending time in different places trying my hands at different things.
Stay tuned for lots more spaces, experiences, travels and food that i will be sharing with you !!

Bucket List 1 - A small fling with the Minar

It has happened before or rather happens all the time! As the new year approaches i have a fit and i start making these long lists of what i want to do this coming year! I take my sword (well my pen) out and start talking to myself (in my mind of course)of all the things i will achieve this coming year and all the battles i need to fight and what i need to achieve and etc etc etc! I pen down RESOLUTIONS in a fresh new notebook which invariably is never found in the same year along with the forgotten resolutions and promises to self ! But mind you i let them be fresh in my mind till the end of January at least !!

This time i said.. Give it a break and Grow up! Lets try something new, lets start making these deals in December itself ;) Old habits die hard you see! So with my Head held high and my Mind without Fear i made a Bucket list (a new name for the jhissa pitta resolutions). And as surprised as you will be to read this.. so was i that i actually started ticking things off the list !

One of the zillion things i had put down was to visit a historical place alone! I am the kind who would take pride in being a Social Animal and doing anything alone makes me feel like a Loser ! Yeah call me names if you will ..
Fortunately i wore the ring in December (yes yes yes .. i got engaged) and it all happened in my motherland Dilli. Once everyone left i decided to stay back and soak the new addition to my life.

So i decided to spend some time visiting the Qutub Minar alone in my Motherland DILLI and had a cheat's way of ticking off one of a million (exaggeration.. 30 is what i have as a number) things on my bucket list.So the agenda was to get comfortable with doing things on my own!

I set out for the famous Qutub Minar. At first i felt a little uncomfortable but i took the Audio headsets available and walked through this grand monument and actually started enjoying it! The architecture, the fictional stories, the grandeur was too overwhelming to even think of my littleness of being alone. It was a deeply satisfying experience and you can call it an ego boost or a sense of love for oneself to be able to experience and soak the beauty on your own !

About the Minar I am going to let the pictures do the rest of the talking!

I hope you enjoyed the Qutub, do leave me a comment if you have visited Qutub. Also do subscribe to the blog if you want to make friends with me :)

Cheers
